Signs your car needs body work after a Connecticut winter

Salt, plows, and potholes do quiet damage. Here is what to check on your car each spring in Stamford.

Connecticut winters are hard on a car's body. Road salt, plow spray, and pothole season leave damage that does not always show until spring. A walk-around now catches the small problems before they rust.

Check the lower panels

Salt collects on rockers, wheel wells, and the bottom of doors. Look for bubbling paint or brown stains. That is rust starting under the finish. Caught early, we sand and treat it. Left alone, it eats through the metal.

Look for pothole damage

A hard hit on a Stamford pothole can bend a wheel, knock the alignment out, or crack a bumper mount. If the car pulls, vibrates above 50 mph, or sits crooked, have the suspension and the body mounts checked. Bring it by the shop and we will look.

Wash underneath

A spring undercarriage wash flushes the last of the salt. Then bring the car in for a quick look. Most checks are free, and a small repair now beats a quarter panel next year.
